Default Absolute and complete newbie - but eager to learn

Having played poker for a few years, and doing quite well at it, I´ve grown more and more curious about sportsbetting and learning how to do so.

I´ve read some threads here but they´re really over my head to be perfectly honest, even the FAQ left me with more questions than answers. Being scandinavian I have never encountered terms like vig, handicapping, gnoming and arbitrage anywhere besides maybe in american movies and tv shows.

So what do you all reckon, any recommended reading ? Think "for dummies" here, very explanatory and basic and once I feel that I got the basics down I´ll move on to more advanced theories and hopefully I´ll also be able to read and participate in this forum on a reasonable level - posting my "lines" or whatever you call it

Sklansky´s Getting The Best of It for instance - will that do me any good ?

Another thing...I´ve seen some threads and posts about sportsbooks taking action against successful players, dropping their limits and so forth. They don´t close the accounts do they ? Sounds most unlikely but nevertheless I do want to make sure that it´s not the case that accounts might be frozen and the money with it.

BTW are there any bettors here who play european sports like maybe Premier League or is it all NFL, NHL, College ball and just all round american ?

Figured I´ll try to learn the ropes through lots of reading, posting/discussing and play money betting for starters and then I´ll deposit 2-3 k or so and give it a try playing the 2% per bet that I´ve seen recommended here.

This all turned out to be quite a rambling post but to sum it all up: how should a complete newbie go about to become a successful sportsbettor ?

Thx.
