Re: Just tilted away 15k, please help!
You shouldn't play 30/60 again, but I know I would. Years ago I was a veteran of 'taking shots'. God it was fun, and miraculously I did make money. Nowadays I have a job and the poker money doesn't really matter anymore, I don't stress and stick to my limits and roll. But i KNOW for sure if I took a shot and lost I'd be back there with every dollar I had trying to win it back, it's that 'being stuck' feeling I just can't stand.

Re: Just tilted away 15k, please help!
Taking a break is pretty much mandatory at this point. The longer the better, but you need at least a couple days off to get your head straight.
As for what to play when you get back, that depends on a multitude of factors. What's your roll now? Do you think you were ever a winning player at 30/60 to begin with? Is your mental state fragile enough that another losing session at 30/60 would send you back to the tilt cycle? Regardless of the answers, I know you'll be able to be a lot more honest with yourself after some time off. Assuming that you still have a decent amount of money, just take some and go get trashed tonight, or do something fun that won't make you stress about poker. Then when you're in a better mind frame, you can make yourself a new plan. Edit: I see this was a few days ago, so you've probably made a decision. Just remember, if it's not working at 30/60 (and you're still up there), don't be afraid to move down. Having 10K or 15K can suck compared to having 25K or 30K, but if you get down to 0, it will be so, so much worse. |

Re: Just tilted away 15k, please help!
Take a break until you're back in the right frame of mind. (hint: "I'm dying to chase lost money so I can't play patiently at my proper limits" is NOT the right frame of mind.) It'll come back. Just take a break until you settle down a bit and your better poker senses return. q/q |

Re: Just tilted away 15k, please help!
I really think all successful players will go through a session of extreme tilt at least once in their careers. I still tilt from time to time but now I can catch myself and apply the breaks. But anyways, I also had a very similar session to yours in which bad beats added up and next you know im down a significant amount and the only way to make that back is play higher. Stop that now. Never chase money. Isnt it amazing how fast you can blow 15K but how long and hard it is to win it back? Well start to value this money as time and hard work. You don't want to give it back. Next time you feel like playing like a moron go play the lowest stakes and raise and reraise every hand till you lose $100 bucks. Trust me that will take a while and it will cure all the tilt wants. I do this at least once a week. It is so therapeutic to me. The best part is when the fish start calling me a moran and tell me I will never make money at this game, lol. GL.

Re: Just tilted away 15k, please help!
If you're playing 30/60, losing 10k and don't understand proper bankroll managemnt, then you do need help. Serious help.
Take a break and find the proper mindset to play. Never play to win money back. Never play with money you can't afford to lose. I shouldn't have to say this, but if you needed to hear it, there it is. |
