Default great cold/rainey day meals

I woke up this afternoon to a rather dreary day and it didnt take long before the miserable conditions started to take hold of my mood. I was in a battle, one that has been fought many times before. This called for drastic action and drastic action was indeed taken in the form of delicious tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwhich. Of course the tomato soup was cooked in a pot and not a microwave with milk not water. Forces of dreariness defeated.

other cold/rainey day foods?

Soup and grilled cheese is usually my call. I usually opt for chicken noodle, though.

If I'm just looking for a snack to pick me up, toast with peanut butter. Usually with a cup of coffee.

Today was cold/rainey/now snowing. I also woke up and made grilled cheese and tomato soup. No milk in the house though.

Ah, tomato soup and grilled cheese---one of the finer comfort food/dreary day meals.

Still like good ole Campbell's, but have recently gotten hooked on Progresso's Hearty Tomato. Good by itself, better with a little added sauted garlic and a smidge of basil.

If I'm home onr a dreary day and have the time, like to make a big pot of chili. Freeze leftovers for quick after work weekday meals.

My wife makes a peanut soup, West African style, that is just amazing. It is thick and spicy and you eat with big chunks of crusty bread. I am going to have to prevail on her to make it this evening.

I'm braising short ribs, I'm getting a little hard just smelling them to be honest.

Chili, with lots of shredded cheddar on top was my answer... it's hearty and delicious.

lasagne always does the trick for me. I think the key here, is food with lots of vibrant colour and texture (i know that sounds really gay but it's the best way of putting it). Those things help defeat the crapness of the day in general and play as much a part as the taste.
