Tangential poker book recommendations

Hi,

Long time lurker first time poster.

I read a post in this forum a few weeks ago which mentioned a book called "Fooled by Randomness." I read this book and gained real good insight into the nature of variance and luck in poker, even though the book is not a poker book per se.

So, having read many of the popular poker books, I am interested in hearing other books that you may have read that have improved your poker game or your approach to or understanding of the game.

The New Yorker "neuroeconomics" article falls into a tangential poker resource category IMO.

Has a foreword by the author of FBR.

BTW - ditto the recommendation for FBR - good read.

I am currently listening to the audiobook version of Blink. I could see some relevance to the poker in that there is discussion of "thin-slicing" to make decisions which can relate to reading players and situations at the table.

"The Game" by Nick Strauss

Just shows how if you apply yourself w/ motivation, effort, to anything - you can accomplish amazing things. Can apply to becoming obsessed w/ poker.

"Fortune's Formula" by William Poundstone is an awsome book that will teach you about Kelly betting and the markets, gambling, etc.

"Blink" and "The Tipping Point" by Malcom Gladwell are very good as awayfromjay said...

I'm sure I'm missing some that I've read in the past year or so.

Innumeracy: Mathematical Illiteracy and Its Consequences by John Allen Paulos

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, expecially as it comes to outs, pot-odds, M, etc.. If you have read about these concepts but haven't integrated them into your game, or now feel they dictate your game, this book might help you put things into perspective. Gives you indirect insight into how bad players think about probability and luck.

I've looked for one but no luck. One that was recommended turned out to be more of a textbook with countless "payoff matrices" or whatever they are. I'd like to find a good treatment of game theory at a higher level without all the math. Of course math is at the heart of it, but in poker there is no time to draw all those matrices.
