The only holding that fits is AK (which you crush) or a K-J set. If he's "telling" you he's ahead all the way, he has AA-JJ here. Fold.

i dont understand why everyone is agonizing about this he's not pushing 99 on the turn. he's PROBABLY not even push AK/TT on the turn. every now and then we're ahead of some random bluff -- that doesn't make up for the overwhelming majority of the time that we're way behind KQ, KJ, KK/QQ/JJ. people aren't going to slowplay on this board, especially not when they consider you their "pal." just fold. [/ QUOTE ] uhhh...duh? He called on the flop, which should have frozen all the hands that he's beating...it didn't, he jammed the turn, AA is a gutshot plus two outer. no odds, fold. pretty easy, IMO. |

Q9 here is not typical. Every time this has happened to me in a tournament the villain showed a set or 2 pair. The only reason I might call here (and this is 50% results oriented) is because he said "You're going to need to because I have the best hand" probably in a playful manner.
I thought He probably had KK or QQ here right after I read the post. Also, what buyin is this? Maybe my <$300 tournaments are just donkish. |

I'd make a crying call.
The way you played the hand both players have a pretty wide range. With so many chips he can push any hand with a T, or a K. I'd ignore the friendly attitude. You don't know enough about this player to interpret the info. However the fact that he has a lot of chips make him more likely to be a liar. You played the hand like this to get him to commit more chips, and when you called the flop what were you hoping for on the turn. Also your standing in the tournament is poor if you lose this hand, and very good if you win. -J |

[ QUOTE ] I talked myself into a call here because I could not bring myself to believe that he would tell me the truth in this situation. I think maybe I was losing patience and wanted to either get some chips or go home. So even though I knew that there were very few hands that I could beat I called anyway. In hindsight, I think I was very lucky that he only had Q9. [/ QUOTE ] wow....so what do all the intsa-folders about that? [/ QUOTE ] OMG, I was wrong....it was bound to happen one of these years. |
