a couple of thoughts, 1st why did'nt the chargers trade drew brees when their future was with p. rivers all along??and why in heck did'nt dallas sign drew brees as free agent???really dallas is your current ball handler the best option to win??parcells??come on,wait a minue!! thats right the owner of the dallas cowboys is an idiot...by the way is drew bledho a backup to any fantasy team???you probably droped him like he droped you [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

The Chargers got rid of Brees because of the shoulder injury he got in the closer against Denver, it looked pretty brutal. Obviously theres a risk with anyone signing him with that kind of injury. Its probably a risk that the Cowboys and other teams should have taken, but Bledsoe is coming off a solid year, and had proven he delivers when protected.

Guys on this board give Breese more credit than most fans I know here in San Diego. Everybody respects Breese as a tough competitor, a solid guy, and a leader. He works hard. He has an accurate arm. His decisions are generally good.
He is small. This isn't Pat Haden or Bob Griese's era. It ain't even Montana's. Guys are all just so huge on each line. Charger receivers have commented that they can see the ball better out of 6'5'' Rivers hands. Less balls get batted down, and a big QB is tougher to bring down. Breese moves okay in the pocket, but can't really scramble or run. His arm strength was below average before the injury. Most important, Breese is not a pressure QB. He's not a Montana type little QB, he lacks that winner intangible. Breese never brought the Chargers back from behind to win late in a ball game. Often he would commit a turnover. This Sunday he threw a pick that was typical. He was late with the ball on an 15 yard out, and he Penningtoned it out there and the Brown's safety jumped it.

The Chargers let Brees go because of money. They spent a bunch of money on Rivers before Brees broke out and became a pro bowl QB. Once Brees took off he was going to command a salary that they couldn't pay because its impossible to field a competitive team while trying to pay 2 qbs.
River could have perhaps won the job as a rookie when Brees was very vulnerable to competition but he had a lengthy hold out that killed any chance of that.

In a couple years when he's considered one of the elite QBs in the league, the level that guys like Manning, Brady, and Palmer are currently on, you will be very happy they didn't resign Brees. Chargers are a Super Bowl contender possibly this year, for sure next year barring any major injuries.
