Re: Why is it ok to eat animals?

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] because they are tasty and nutritious [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] And, well, we're omnivores. Oh, and, yeah, again they're tasty. Honestly, do lions feel guilty when they eat a zebra? It's not exactly like cows or chickens are endangered, now, is it? |

I'm looking for good logical arguments why it is okay to eat animals, not good practical arguments |

Re: Why is it ok to eat animals?
shes saying some act is wrong. the burden on her is to give a reason why.
giving a reason why something is permissible is a little bizarre, like asking why there are no unicorns under my bed.. |

Re: Why is it ok to eat animals?
There is nothing wrong with eating animals at all.
Taste preference is only an opinion, and if people prefer the taste of meat you can't argue what they like better or worse. If anything is wrong to eat, ask her why plants are excluded? Plants are living beings that have their own intrinsic value, just because they aren't cute they don't count? Plants are not < animals, but = to animals IMO. I am a vegetarian and hold these beliefs. I do not believe I am a morally better person by not eating a certain group of creatures called animals. |

I'm looking for good logical arguments why it is okay to eat animals, not good practical arguments [/ QUOTE ] Well, argument #1 is that it's our fundamental nature to do so. We are omnivores, after all, meaning that we eat anything and everything that we can. She'll argue that we should know better, and can get all the protein, etc. that we need from vegetable sources. OK, so what do we do with all the cows, chickens, pigs, etc that we raise for food? None of them would be alive if not for us. Is it more sad that they live a short life, only to die painlessly for our culinary enjoyment, or that they would never have lived at all if not for us? |
