I think that another couple of problems that you are going to run into are that with this, you would be broadcasting, across air, music. The FCC implications could be an issue, as well as the evil record companies

I believe what's wrong with the idea is that the cell phone companies currently allow "unlimited" access. Verizon is capped at 10GB a month and they tell you up front not to stream music, files, run a server etc. If you exceed the "unlimited" 10GB they kick you back to pay as you go... [/ QUOTE ] Agreed bandwith is a major hurdle. |

TSC, Uh, of course there is. This is not exactly innovative thought. Increased storage. Streamimg audio from the Internet. I mean, I'm sure sooner or later someone is gonna combine a digital camera with a cell phone. It's just bound to happen. [/ QUOTE ] ![]() |

Those who said battery life - does the nature of streaming mean that it would necessarily eat battery life faster than conventional mp3 players? [/ QUOTE ] I don't know enough about cell phone batteries, but one thing to remember is that your standby battery life on a cell is long, talk time life is considerably shorter. Leads me to believe that constant streaming on a phone would be a serious battery drainer. I know that my older iPod mini gets about 4-5 hours of use before it needs to be charged, and that number varies even more depending on the volume. |

Tell me what's wrong with this idea: [/ QUOTE ] The lack of thought behind it. [ QUOTE ] New trend is combo cell phone/mp3 players. [/ QUOTE ] Yes [ QUOTE ] Cell phones are capable of getting internet service at 2+mb/s d/l speeds. [/ QUOTE ] In perfect world, lab situations, definitely above a megabit. Walking around in the real world, no, not even close. [ QUOTE ] Forget trying to fit high capacity drives and flash memory into smaller and smaller packages. Forget having to add to your mp3 player every time you add to your library on your PC. [/ QUOTE ] Sure, all these big companies with large research staffs are way off base. Going in the wrong direction and you have the right one. [ QUOTE ] My yet-to-be-named invention is a cell phone/music player combo which STREAMS from your pc music library. Think Slingbox but for audio instead of video. Maybe I will call it the eyezPod. Tell me why this won't be the coolest thing ever. [/ QUOTE ] The fact that it is completely impractical? Or are we suspending reality for the day? 1. Bandwidth bills would be ridiculous 2. Streaming would frequently skip / fail / [censored] If that is not sufficient, I'm sure others will elaborate on the dozen other reasons this is a terrible idea. J |

It's actually possible to impress everyone with how smart you are AND come off as a non-douchebag. In the real world even, not just lab situations. CE |

CE,
Wow, I just pointed out the obvious, glaring holes in your "idea". A smart dude, or someone who gave a [censored], would have talked about gigahertz and techie [censored] like that. I on the other hand just stated the obvious, web access on a cell phone is expensive. Holla. J |
