To the unwashed masses the winner of the WSOP is the "world champion" but any competent poker player knows that the variance of a single MTT is so much that by itself it's pretty meaningless.

Only consistent big tournament success proves somebody is a great player.

And in my opinion the greatest players are those who not only do great in tournaments but also beat the highest stakes cash games (Ivey, Greenstein, Brunson, etc.)

But without the WSOP ME hype I wouldn't be involved in poker and neither would most of the donks I take $2 off here and there. So it serves its purpose.

Of course I agree with you. That is why I said so called champion. I just haven't seen so many bad calls with all that money on the line before.

By the way I love the way Danzer played that AQ against Nobles. It was so obvious that Nobles hit a queen on the river, even if you didn't know what his hole cards were in the first place.

Overall I'd rate these 2 episodes as a B+. We saw a lot of hands (well, a lot more than we normally see) and there seemed to be fewer puff pieces (maybe 1 or 2 fewer). The golf segment was funny and Doyle's punch-line was hilarious. Chad's later reference to Doyle's going to sleep early with milk and cookies was funny too.

I also liked the fact that Chad wasn't as annoying as usual. There was much less of his whining and a bit more attention on the cards.

Hopes for 2007 ME: Less attention given to Annie Duke and Humberto Brenes. Not only is Duke's game not up to winning a tourney this large (she has no gamble in her), but she's not much fun to watch either. She's sour when she loses and when she sucks out she cries and apologizes. Brenes is just a douchetard. Not only is he showboating but he's also wasting everyone's time with his antics. What I want to see is when he pulls his crap-act and someone turns over the nuts and busts him right out. Then we'll get a good look at the real Brenes - a nasty person.

Hope2: No more segments on players surviving cancer, brain tumors, etc. Don't want to know. Don't care. I want to see poker. If they want to mention it during play of a hand then OK but I don't want to see another !@#$%^ waste of 5 minutes of my time about someone beating some disease. It's totally inappropriate in the context of a poker show.
