Jack\'s Track of the Day v2
I was doing this before, but the combination of actual stuff to do and the kinda enforced no-piracy rule helped shut it down. I'm bored, and my last thread with a bunch of mp3s was a huge hit, so let's go.
Every day I will provide a link (not upload) to an mp3 file or a YouTube video of an awesome song that's preferably come out within the last year. *** Sep 5 2006: M. Ward - To Go Home M. Ward's most distinctive quality is his singing. His voice manages to both warm and haunt at the same time, sounding like a warped vinyl. This comes from his 5th studio album Post-War (Amazon link), released on August 22. "To Go Home" is a Daniel Johnston cover featuring Neko Case. Everything about the song is masterful, including the drumming and Neko Case's voice. I've listened to the song, oh, 30 times today, and I can't imagine it not being liked. M. Ward - To Go Home |

Sep 6 2006: Basement Jaxx - Take Me Back to Your House
The new single off of the new album Crazy Itch Radio, "Take Me Back to Your House" exemplifies a shift world music. It certainly helps that the song uses heavy [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balalaika]balalaika[/url, a russian instrument that looks a bit like a retarded banjo. (The Pitchfork-annointed standout track "Hey You," sounds like it could fit right into the Lion King soundtrack.) The real reason to check this out is the video - taking place in Russia (where else?) the video mocks the standard dance video with hilarious results. Basement Jaxx - Take Me Back to Your House (YouTube) (This was going to be the first track of the day, but M. Ward had something to say about that.) |

Sep 7 2006 - The Rapture - Whoo! Alright, Yeah... Uh huh
Following up what some people call the best album of 2003 (I laugh at those people), The Rapture are releasing Pieces of the People We Love. The album's not as good as Echoes, but W.A.Y.U.H. is certainly a dance hit. The Rapture - Whoo! Alright-Yeah... Uh huh |
