As for "opportunity missed" -- what about the times that "shortstacknit" flops middle set against top set?... your example is extremely slanted.

My example was intended to be slanted, and I only posted it because I saw the hand while thinking about this discussion not because it was the best possible example. I was responding to your comment:

The "opportunity" you're passing up here is the opportunity to get fleeced by players who play better than you.

Deep stack play doesn't just offer opportunities to lose more; it offers opportunities to win more too. And there is, of course, little point to worrying about set v. set situations with 100 bb stacks as sets will still be profitable (set v. set situations even out and set v. overpair/2 pair/draws is profitable).

I agree beginners are at a disadvantage playing with 100 bb stacks. But I also think non-beginners who have the ability and will to learn deep stack play are doing themselves a disservice by not learning it.

And set mining is probably an even easier strategy than the tight short stack strategy. Just call 3-5 bb raises with any pair, flop a set, make sure money goes in on every street, get all in fast if it is draw heavy, river a full house when they hit their flush on the turn. I'd have a lot more money if I would just do this .

I don't particularly care one way or another. I don't play high enough limits that short stacks bother me as I can always leave a table if I'm uncomfortable with my competition's skill level (i.e., they are better than me) or strategy.
