"There just weren't any real Thai people in the story I chose to tell last night."

All of the other things you mentioned wouldve have been infintiely more interesting than the banana show (to me atleast).

Yeah, me too, but harder to write.

Degen - did you decide to misquuote me to make me look bad or just jump to replying without reading the rest of the sentence?

"...and was never in a situation to pick up normally." The first week I was in bars with normal thai people, but I had just quit a job I had come to hate and was looking to get totally wasted. After that, I admit, I spent most of my potential pickup time in backpacker-land, not Thai-land. I guess I'm just not as awesomely cool as you are since I didn't go to Thailand to sleep with Thai chicks.

For the record, I didn't actually go to Thailand with the intention of sleeping with anyone as I was also getting away from a woman-situation that had messed me up a little, it just happened on my last night.

There is one thing that seemed to be absent in your post, and that is any actual contact with Thai people.

[/ QUOTE ]

IMO there's quite a difficult obstacle here. I found that most people who could speak English well ended up in the tourism industry, which meant it was very hard for me to have a conversation with them without them trying to sell me [censored] constantly. I tried, I really did try, but I don't feel like I never got far

The one's I encountered didn't seem to speak English too well. A conversation was possible, just nothing past the basics. Was I just unlucky?

i find it very funny that you people bag on the guy for writing about his own personal experience in thailand. you guys think just because you live there or are well traveled thorugh thailand then that means he has to do the things that you do and talk to the locals and do what the locals do.
