Default Sklansky\'s Stud H/L section in SS1:

ok, supernewbie question here:

in sklansky's H/L section, i dont see anything mentioning a qualifier for the Lo hand.

is that because when the book was written, there was no qualifier for lo, or because its just assumed that everybody knows there's a 8ob qualifier to take the low end?

if the former is true, how big of an impact does this have on the overall strategy described in the book?

The book was written before the 8 qualifier became the norm. Interestingly enough the 40/80 mixed rotation game at the Bellagio often includes Stud h/l without a qualifier, to my knowledge thats the only regular game in a casino where this version is still spread.

does that make the entire section essentially outdated, or do a lot of the principles still stand?

entirely outdated unless you play that specific variant.

oy.

then all i've got in my poker library on the subject is Hellmuth's book. looks like i'm up a creek with a broken paddle.

Stud h/l is the game I mostly play these days and I learned the game from Todd Brunson's chapter in SSII. I thought it was a good section, but it is all I have read on stud h/l, so I have nothing to really compare it to. I am a winning player, so I think the advice is pretty good. I rate it as one of the better chapters of SSII.
