I'll give it a try, but I think the parameters are too large. Four chapters a week after the first four chapters could be too many. This book is one of the "bibles" of poker; surely the discussions of some of the chapters are going to get pretty involved. Four chapters and participation in the discussion could be too much to ask.

I do think limiting the discussion to sections is a must in order to have some way to keep our discussions focused.

I do very much like the idea though.

Good idea. Psych forum are all doing a book study on the Pyschology of Poker by Dr. Alan S. I'm in. There are still some math concepts which I suck at

Woo, fantastic response! Terrific. Then let's start this weekend. Here's how I propose we do it:

Let's make a "digest template" thread and then separate "topic threads."

The "digest template" thread will be like a table of contents for our discussions. Every time you start a new thread regarding the current TOP chapters or issues, you make a brief post to the digest including the link and a brief description of the topic. This thread will have one post per new topic, and it will make it DRAMATICALLY easier to create a single, unified "table of contents" thread later on. (Great idea, Grunch.)

Then, every time we want to discuss a topic, we check the digest template; if no similar topics exist, we create one and add it to the digest thread.

With twenty-five chapters, this will take us about six weeks to finish, and that should be enough time to read. Obviously, discussions will continue as long as necessary on any given topic, so there's no constraint that we cannot move on to the next chapter until we finish the old one or anything of the sort.

I agree that we should be approaching this project from the perspective of figuring out how to best adapt the brilliance of TOP to the SSNL setting, and I think that should be the main thrust of our discussions.

OK, good stuff! Our first reading assignment is then TOP, chapters 1-4. I'll start the "digest template" and first discussion thread(s) on Saturday; from there, everything should unwind rather organically.

I'm looking forward to this.

Pokey,

I like the idea, but I think we might to slow the pace a bit. As an aside, I assume most of us will be buying the Sklansky/Miller NL book when it comes out. I think that it is a must for the SSNL crowd to do a book study with it.

One more thing. I propose that someone be "in charge" and by that I mean only person should be designated to start posts on the particular section(s) we are reading at the time.

Re: someone being in charge. I agree. And since this was Pokey's idea, I nominate Pokey to be in charge.
