The reason this play can be a good decision is because his stack size is SO big that even if the next 2-3 are eliminated by other players, he will still have a dominant chip lead and can more easily battle them shorthanded. The other big factor is that everyone else has tightened up to Harringtonian levels, and you want them to remain that tight for as long as possible, so you can steal more from middle stacks, not tiny stacks. Scott Fishman calls this something like "the hand of God."
