Wells was great for the Padres during his time there and has had success in the NL. He even had success for the Red Sox coming off his DL stint.

[/ QUOTE ] compare that to what the pirates got for all the guys they traded at the deadline and maybe you get a good sense of why some teams win more often than others sure, there's $$ at play, but this is part of it.

He is old, but he has barely pitched this season -- so he's relatively fresh! In August, he pitched five games, letting up a total of 10ERs and always going at least 6 innings. He gives up about one walk per game. Is that a bad pitcher?
