Im positive the rake at the 100/200 in Bellagio in $72. Five dollars, while high for a short-handed table is a bit steep, but is still very easy to overcome. %2.5 of one big bet for a winning player is quite minuscule.

I'm positive that you're dead wrong. A once per dealer time pot is not the same as raking every hand that amount.

In the Amsterdam 10/20 Euro limit game, raked is 5% up to 20 euro!

In the Barcelona 20/40 game, I think it's like 10% uncapped. I'm not even kidding.

Sorry for the delay. 'On what grounds?' - gross profiteering. In the uk many services industries are affiliated to watchdogs/regualators. My knowledge is superficial - no more than consumer level - but these bodies are in place to ensure that companies don't abuse there position: they significant powers to, for example, impose fines I believe. British gas say wouldn't be aloud to charge £1000 to the public for a product which effectively net cost them £50 - of course this wouldn't occur as market forces dictate - but it couldn't happen. This is precisely the level of profiteering occurring in the interent-poker industry.

Banks now have to justify the charges they impose on customers for sending a letter stating you are overdrawn. Although there is no monopoly regulators must guard against cartel-like behaviour, which in certain areas banks act like.

There's little doubt that the big poker rooms behave in a similar way. There has not been a serious war on rake between stars and party. And when there was *within party*, when it appeared change in was in the offing, party pulled out a great coup and snuffed it out. Maybe if the poker community decided to take a short term hit and **** to stars the rakeback would still be around; but since sharks predictably follow value like donkeys do carrots - nothing changes nor will it if people see value that way. It's quite frustrating, like a million prisoner dilemmas - rake could be halved in a week if the consumers sung from the same sheet. What would party do if everyone boycotted their site and buggarred off to stars until they reduced their rake? They'd slice it half in a heartbeat. Unfortunately there appears no significant collective.

something like $50 per hundred hands is not small. it's a large percentage of even a top player's winrate.

and as someone pointed out, raking $72 once per half hour is not the same as raking $72 per hand. it works out to less than $5/hand.

when i play 40/80 we use a $8 time charge/half hr. which isnt bad b/c the only time the game gets slowed down is when theres a big multiway pot or the fishies are confoooosed.

[/ QUOTE ]
$8 time charge/half hr x 2 x 10 =$160 per hour per table. You will never play more then 30 hands per hour so in effect you are paying more then $5 a hand...

party rakes that high because they can, and what are you going to do about it? it sucks, but remember that online poker is still cheaper than B&M poker.

i was absolutely flabergasted that the rake in the 20/40 game at bay101 got bumped up to $5. it makes the game almost unplayable.

and i feel really bad for the euro players because their rake is just ridiculous.
