1. I read it cover to cover (with absolutely no play during the reading until the book is complete).
2. I then go play the form of poker I was using the book for, attempting to see if the material from the book comes back to me while I play and begin applying the concepts. I try to play alot of hands. 3. I then reread the book. The combo of the initial read + some experience usually makes this 2nd pass very useful. |

Hi this question goes to deacsoft, or anybody who want to answer
(Iven been reading 2+2 1 year ago but i never post ) In what order should I read the books? I have NLTAP, all HOH so far, TOP, LGB, Holdem Poker for Advanced Players, maybe I missed one. What other books should I buy? I've read LGB and TOP already (of course I didn't understand anything in TOP , it was in korean or so) Thanks in advance ~ |

You should probably start a separate thread. Some things any of us need to know to be able to answer your questions:
Do you play tournament or cash tables? Limit holdem, No Limit holdem, or other games? What level or buyin are you playing? Doc |

If I can't write about my thoughs and impressions I need to read it again. I think it goes a step further than taking notes and the good old "your more likely to remember it if you write it down". I think you're even more likely than that to remember something if you put some original though into it too. |

I do the following... 1. Read it cover to cover. 2. Read it again and take notes. 3. Read it a third time to make sure I didn't miss anything. 4. Write a review. 5. Put it on shelf above my computers for quick & easy reference. [/ QUOTE ] In theory this is close to what I try to do. In practice, I end up buying something else before I finish a book even once or twice. I get all jonesed up to read the new book and forget about the really great book I was working through. Colt, I hate to say it, but that is exactly what I do too. I was reading LGB, then I got Kill Phil and got part of the way through it to understand the basics, then I started Book of Bluffs and just to complicate things, Ace on the River just arrived today...lol.
I keep saying I won't buy another book until I finish everything I have, but I usually give in and buy more. Other than Book of Bluffs, I see myself eventually reading them all, I just don't know when. There is no way I would ever have time to read a book three times, although I do see the value in it. I am definitely going to start taking notes when I read. You guys have mentioned some good methods for getting the most out of the reading. |
