Default How much would you tip for this bill?

Situation:

You're at a high end manhattan steak house dining with 2 other dudes. Service has been excellent all night. The total bill (post tax, pre-tip) is $455. Total spent on wine is $160. How much do you tip?

I say 20% across the board, but maybe i'm too generous. I have been debated heartily on this by certain friends.

Your comments?

20% is fine, although some people like to calculate it off the pretax total

Do we absolutely have to have 37 tipping threads every single week?

Do you absolutely need to take the time to complain about it?

If a thread doesn't interest you, move on to the next one. Why is this difficult?

It causes me great personal injury and my heart is very sad when I see your post. Do you not care about my feelings? Think of the children, at least.

When you were done with dinner did you light your cigars with hundred dollar bills ala Boss Hogg?

I've always gone with post-tax 20% food, 10% wine (unless it's an 3L or larger bottle or it was otherwise difficult to decant) for this relatively small group. That would make it around 75 or so.

Hysterical that I post a simple opinion question about practical advice and yet somehow draw your ire. Are you really this bitter? What the hell did I do to you?
