Default Floor Ruling?? 75s vs. 22 on 36963 board

Local cardroom. NL Hold'em. I'm in a small raised pot and the board gets checked down to show 36963 and I open 75s for the table and say, "I play board". My opponent opens 22, I laugh and say, "ok, chop" and I throw my cards to the muck.

Should the whole pot be awarded to my opponent or should it be chopped?

You tabled your hand. It's live.

But it sounds like you may have gotten a good lesson, too: Don't ever release your hand until the dealer pushes you your money or you see a better hand.

(An Exception for that wacky casino someone mentioned where the dealer mucks the cards before pushing the pot is duly noted.)

My opponent and I resolved the issue by chopping, w/o calling the floor, but I wondered what the floor ruling would've been.

Does mucking the cards face down make my hand dead even though I first declared "I play the board" which was still face up?

Technically, you don't say whether you 'tabled' your hand. You just 'opened' it. Which is equivalent to just flashing it. In that case, cardspeak isn't attached.

However, the 22 would be a dick for pursuing this not to be a chopped pot based on that even though, technically, a case could be made in his favor.

If you must, don't throw your cards into the muck until they've been verified with cardspeak being attached. It can be an expensive lesson.

So you're asking if you didn't show your hand at all, and mucked deep into the muck, but just said, 'I play the board', would your hand still be valid? No.

You put both cards on the table face-up(tabling your hand). Then anyone can confirm your hand even if the dealer, or you, miscalls it. Even if it is then mucked on accident and others can confirm what you had, your hand is still valid. Some home games will attach cardspeak just in flashing the hand and declaring in view of others at table. Usually not the case in a cardroom.

This is the only time more than 'one person to a hand' is allowed.

In the casino's where I've play, they only pay hands that are face up on the table. If you muck it face down thats it. I really hope the awarded the full pot to 22. Next time don't muck....

This is a chop. It is hard to make a scenerio with standard casino rules where this is not a chop. There are some casinos with odd ball rules, but this should be a chop. There have been a lot of threads on here about playing the board.
