i hate [censored] like this. if you don't know how he plays his flush draws i think my standard is to call this and reevaluate river. if he fires again i lay it down, if he checks i value bet. i don't think that's a very good line though, i'd be curious to see what other people do vs. unknowns here.

oh yeah, welcome to the forums.

Pros to calling:
-You might be ahead
-If he has a flush, its probably a low one given the As on board so if you call you can bluff at a river spade
-You have FH outs
Cons:
-He could easily have flush...

So about one in four river cards are good for you even if he has the flush (7 spades since you don't include his two or the king and 4 FH outs = 11 outs), meaning you have around 25% equity even against a flush. And you only need 30% equity to call this bet.

Obviously its overly optimistic to assume you always win on a flush card, which is a big deal since you will be putting your stack in if checked to. But unless he has QT or QJ of spades, you probably will take it down, and I don't think he'd play such a big draw that passively on the flop. Also against a set your 'outs' are almost always good as well (unless he has KK with the K of spades, very doubtful). So overall, I don't think you need to be ahead that often here to call, and I would peel and bluff at any river spade.

Don't forget hands like A with a J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I'd call and reevaluate on the river. I would probably play this hand for stacks since it is such a strange line.

Oh yeah, we do get burned in those spots when he has a big ace with a big spade and a spade falls. We are ahead of those right now though. Way too lazy to do the math but I think we still make money off calling against those. Oh and I don't think villain's line is out of the ordinary for a flush, although I would usually lead it myself.

Why is this a strange line for a flush? I could go either way with this hand but often call.

I would probably fold. You have shown strength both preflop and on the flop yet villains bets strongly into the turn w/ 3 flush board. This is almost always either a hand that beats AK or a bluff, from my experience. I've lost quite a bit of money not giving villain credit for a hand here (maybe I'm just running bad lately). Get out while you have little invested.
