Default thread-locking in politics

I've seen two new threads that were locked overnight in the politics forum.

One is the thread about Bush's speech and Japan. WHy is this locked? No reason is given and I don't see anything offensive in it. I wanted to say that obviously he was suposed to have said half a century (or whoever wrote it meant that).

jman's thread about "media fraud" in coverage of the attacks on Lebanon has also been locked, because the topic has "already been discussed." That seems silly. Not all of those images have been discussed, and I had some points to make about them that I don't think had been made before. And even then, are we going to start locking all AC threads because the topic has already been discussed? If it's already been sufficiently discussed, people will ignore it and it will die. If people are still interested in the topic, why can;t they discuss it? Now I can't make my points and the video stands unchallenged. That is irritating.

I would have liked to put this in the thread that already exists about forum locking so I wouldn't have had to clutter the forum with a new one, but that thread is, of course, locked.

nicky,

1) Bush Japan speech - an obvious mistatement is not a true political topic.

2) media fraud - why not bump one of the previous threads discussing this issue if you have something to add?

I guess. I was going to point that out though (that he obviously was supposed to say half a century). The intelligence/competence of a leader is a fairly important political topic.

I have mentioned it in another thread where the subject came up. But come on; why do we need to search through the archives from a thread from a week or two ago to discuss the same topic? I understand that having two threads on the go at the same time about the same subject may be annoying for some hypersensitive people, but do we really have to keep one big thread running forever if we want to discuss the same topic more than once in our lives?

.....I have a feeling that perhaps our definitions of 'rocking' might be different in this case?
