Re: 2 pieces of advice
1. Doing pretty much the opposite of the advice in the OP is main reason that I'm not rich from poker.

1.) Show the bluff if you are playing fairly tight.
2.) If you're going to fast, don't let anyone bring fast food in to your house, you will lose. |

1. Don't get married before 25, you're not done cooking yet.
2. Unless you're tripping over your excess cash, always buy a vehicle one year off the lot. |

Re: 2 pieces of advice
this makes no sense to me. how do i know i am running bad? 20bb, 30bb, 50bb, 100bb? i swing 30bb every other hr, 50 bb nearly every day. if i dropped 100bb it means ive been playing for a long time.
i never run well for a long time. i will drop 30bb at some time every single day. |

how do i know i am running bad? [/ QUOTE ] There doesn't have to be a quantitative measure for this, and I think that's OP's point. |

Re: 2 pieces of advice
[ QUOTE ]
1.) Keep your ego out of your game as much as possible 2.) When running bad, don't feel sorry for yourself or compare your results to people you think are of similar skill levels 3.) Regardless of how you are running, be capable of playing different limits and not just sticking to one 4.) Learn the line between playing through a tough session and overdoing it 5.) Remember how many people would kill to make as much as you playing poker, keep yourself mentally fresh and sharp, don't poker [censored] with the rest of your life, it will come back to help you game 6.) Remember that over the course of a year, you have more control over your poker reuslts than you do in almost any other job, don't make excuses for yourself [/ QUOTE ] I am very guilty of number two but I am not sure that is an entirely bad thing. Seeing my buddies making big gains keeps me motivated to keep learning and grinding. When times get very rough I think watching them kick a$$ may very well keep me from throwing in the towel completely and finding some other way to make money. |

Re: 2 pieces of advice
This thread has helped me a lot today. I'm in a major downswing at the moment. Just reading this thread shows me some things I should have done to atleast stop some of that.
"2. Once you think for a second that you should quit a session, you have quit. You are no longer thinking of playing your A-game. Get up and go. " God this would have saved me a lot of money today. |
