Default idea: Poker boot camp in a Thai island

I live in Thailand.

The idea would be a 10 days holiday course in learning how to play poker during a few hours in the morning and enjoying island activities in the afternoon on the island of Koh Phi phi in Thailand (that's in this part of Thailand that the movie "The beach was shot"). There are also some nighlife activities there such as 2 or 3 discotheques and many bars, pool bars, restaurants, ...

The package would include:

- 40-45 hours of learning with a hired poker winning player who has the ability to teach. A classroom would ideally have 10 sudents and equipped with adequate computers and sofwares such as a poker platform for example.

- bungalow lodging right next to the beach with aircon, satellite TV, etc...

- transfer service from Phuket airport to their hotel on Koh Phi Phi (at 2 hours by boat from Phuket).

- diving, snorking or other kind of activities each afternoon in the surrounding small islands.

What do you think of this idea?
Would you be more interested if it was located in Bangkok?

Thanks.

There is definitely a portion of the population out there for whom this would appeal to. But whether or they can afford it or whether or not they would be interested unless some tv poker superstar is hosting it is a different story. Personally, I think there's just way too many things to do in Thailand and playing poker all day would definitely be at the bottom of my list while I'm down there.

If you don't have one or two recognizable pro's on this excursion I don't think it will work.

I think your biggest problem will be convincing poker players that 9am exists.

Excellent idea - Phi Phi is an amazing choice of venue too.

Guess the piece that is missing at the moment is the content... with so many variations of Poker out there it might be best to have a week for each type?

A couple of misc thoughts:
- Unlikely that you could make much arranging flights / transfers (its too easy to do) but commission on accomodation would be a possibility.
- Take it you know already that gambling is not legal in Thailand so some way of getting round this might be required if you make a formal business out of this idea.
- You need to think about marketing, your target audience would be a small % of the poker playing population, who are they and how could you cost-effectively reach them.

If you could get some names / proven pro's to do the teaching i would be interested in such a scheme (at the right price!), PM me when you are up and running.

Best of luck.

There's your answer. Get KKF to teach it. Advertise it on 2+2. I'm sure you'll get a few takers.
