Re: cover songs better than the original
[ QUOTE ]
Smooth Criminal - Alien Ant Farm Don't really like MJ's version much at all. Mostly, the little kid dancing in their video puts it over the top. Faith - Limp Bizkit. I like this much better than the George Michael version. [/ QUOTE ] You're not very good at this game. I bet you own a lot of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes records. |

Re: cover songs better than the original
Not necessarily better than the originals, but different in a good way:
"Sweet Jane", covered by Cowboy Junkies (Lou Reed - orig.) "Mississippi", covered by Sheryl Crow (Dylan - orig.) "Wonderwall", covered by Ryan Adams (Oasis - orig.) "Used Cars", covered by Ani DiFranco (Springsteen - orig.) "The Weight", covered by Aretha Franklin (The Band - orig.) |

I might get lynched for this, but I like DMB's version of Watchtower better than Hendrix. Although Hendrix is obviously awesome. [/ QUOTE ] Who are DMB? Watchtower is a Dylan song covered by Hendrix... |

Re: cover songs better than the original
good covers of old blues songs, not necessarily better than the originals, but good in their own right
Nirvana - "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" (Leadbelly) the Stones - "Love in Vain" (Robert Johnson) The White Stripes - "Death Letter" (Son House) and both of those bands have covers of "Stop Breakin' Down" (Robert Johnson). |

Eva Cassidy-- Fields of gold.
She has done some excellent covers of Imagine and Time after time, not sure if they're "better" though. |
