Default Great Song...How did I miss it !?!?!?!?

SO yesterday a friend gives me a CD, unlabeled, and said I would love it b/c there was alot of oldish rock on it. I like oldish rock!

The second song on the CD was AWESOME, it's called "Possum Kingdom" from the Toadies. When I heard it I was appalled that noone had brought this to my attention. I don't patronize radio, and b/c of this am somewhat sheltered with respect to obscure bands.

Is there something of a cannon one could refer to to find these "hidden gems"? I listened to some of the Toadies other songs and they were deplorable.

How do I go about not missing out without sacrificing too much time listening to crap rock?

EDIT: Thanks!

Possum kingdom was on super-heavy radio rotation around 94. I say you should give rubberneck another listen, great album.

Do you like heavier stuff? try corrosion of conformity "deliverance" or clutch's second album, I believe it's untilted. This stuff isn't death metal by any means. if you like it I'll add others.
