Terrible play wins out a lot in omaha. Against terrible play of course it's +ev but not as much as it would be for holdem. In holdem you're getting all your money in against bad players when they're massive dogs. When you're putting in your money in omaha you are very close or ahead but not by much.

The volatility is bigger in PLO (due to the nature of the game) but if you can control the downswings then the upswings make up for it plus some.

The only way I can think of "controlling the downswings" would be not to play hands where you have positive but small equity, which is often where the money is in this game, which would kill your upswings.

Maybe you're talking about being mentally able to control yourself over the downswings though.

i disagree completely.

first, not every hand is all-in on the flop. there are many points during a hand to make bad plays.

second, the factor which you mention is not necessarily a bad thing. bad players will get spectacularly lucky now and again but that won't bother me as it will keep them around for longer. really bad holdem players won't last long. i'm sure new ones will take their place, but....

it's all relative anyway, which was my point. if you're winning money at omaha, then obviously it is worth it for you to play, the same being true for holdem or any other endeavor you might use the time for. i don't think anyone should say, "i do better at holdem than omaha for x x and x reasons, therefore it is better for anyone to play holdem than omaha." i'm sure good conditions for winning exist on the holdem tables, but they do on omaha tables as well.

in any event i should shut my mouth there is no % in this argument on second thought, i agree with you completely
