Playing the board from BB
Say your in the BB and you call a typical steal raise but you don't make a pair or any kind of draw.
Are there any particular boards you think are worth making a play with, be it donk betting or check raising? If so what type of boards and what plays do you make against what type of player?? In what other instances do you play the board rather than your own cards and hand you have made? |

Re: Playing the board from BB
Check-raising a all-low card flop and leading the turn after calling a possible steal preflop. Most stealing hands tend to have high card strength, so a check-raise on a 752r board often makes the villain rethink his strategy.

Re: Playing the board from BB
Well against a tight player who steals 30%+, I will often try a C/R on something like an A62r flop. I think the key in these HU pots is play the flop very aggressively with any piece against TAGish players.. Against LAGs, raising/3betting the flop is rarely going to phase them.. We're much better off making more money with our made hands on later streets, and drawing cheap (since we're never pushing them off if they have a piece), since we'll often get extra bets in if we hit..
And against loose-passives, you will need to decide how capable they are of folding to flop or turn bets.. Lots of those types are scared of raises, and will just peel the flop and then fold the turn with anything less than a decent hand.. OTOH, alot of them will take almost anything to showdown, in which case we want to value bet our made hands, and see how cheap we can get to showdown with A or K-high.. As for playing the board rather than the cards, I think thats best left for play against TAGish players who are capable of folding small pairs on ace high boards. It takes a long time to develop a feel for these spots, and making +EV plays at them.. Start experimenting and each time you pull something off sucessfully, your confidence grows and your spidey-sense becomes more alert for when and where to take these shots.. |
