Choosing Guitar Strings
I'm trying to choose a new set. I am currently using Elixer Lights, but I was wondering what experiences you've had with different brands.
Input appreciated! |

Re: Choosing Guitar Strings
Don't buy elixer strings. that lasts 3 times as long is utter bs.
And it depends on wether you're playing electric or acoustic. for electric, it's not going to really affect your tone in any real noticable way, since the sound has to go through pickups, the wiring, and whatever effects you use. I usually play .09 guage d'addarios or Ernie Balls for electric, and .10 gauge Martin strings for acoustic |

This is in the wrong topic. Maybe try BBV?

Re: Choosing Guitar Strings
Ernie balls are the best for electrics. For acousics I used a couple and dont have a preference

Re: Choosing Guitar Strings
ernie ball for electric.
p.s. buy multiple sets and a hard case and do whatever you can to keep your instrument in good shape in dorms. i found that the temperature/humidity rates in buildings are usually not as good as at home with a de-humidifier so its good to try and keep it in best shape as possible. |

Re: Choosing Guitar Strings
My favorite. I currently use mediums but plan on switching to lights. Don't worry, my neck is set up to handle both.

Re: Choosing Guitar Strings
Ive tried ernie ball strings and they were fine, but I really cant get enough of D'addario.
That being said, I play with really light strings (.9-.42), and do a lot of rock / metal type stuff. |

Re: Choosing Guitar Strings
No real difference between most of them, if they're steel string. Nylon is another story. I used Dean Markley mostly.

For an electric, though, just get 2 cheaper sets rather than 1 set of elixers. Put me in the camp of whatever's cheapest. I'd be more worried about finding the right gauges. I'm a fan of slightly thicker gauges cause they sound a lot fuller, you just have to get used to the tightness. I'd say experiment with some different gauges and see how it goes. I'm kosher w/ .10's. |
