never put money down on a car lease

FYP

Always put money down on a car lease if the money factor is higher than you could get by investing the difference.

an investment is a risk...if you can reliably get 10% then that is your best option, but you likely wouldn't be leasing a car if you were that good

Mechanically, isn't this car a disaster. Especially compared to the japanese luxury cars? Seriously I have never read anything good mechanically about these cars.

If you spend 85k on a car shouldn't the car maker believe in the product a little bit beyond 60,000 miles.

I don't know anything about the new ones, but my ex-gf's dad had an early 90's 7 series that lasted like 330k miles.

A 2001 M3 sold on ebay with about 230,000 miles on it for about $20k a few months ago.

37k to rent a car for 3 years... sounds like a great deal.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey it's not often you can get into an investment and know up front you are only going to lose $37k

[/ QUOTE ]

This is an investment?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, it certainly isn't. I wonder what's wrong with buying a 2 year old 750 with 20k miles and saving $20k (or more)?

[/ QUOTE ]

well its because there is no 2 year old 750... it was the 745 and the body was different, that 7 series was from 02-05, the 06 changed to a little bit bigger engine and the lights look different. but youre right, i would get the older one too. ive been looking at 02-03 745Li's... with about 50k miles in the 38-45k range, fully loaded, some with 100k mile warranties, now that is a great deal.

you got a pretty good deal, but as per your other post.. you live in the LA area, and how do you plan to drive less than 12k miles? Since ive lived here ive never driven less than 20k

Bulbrainey I would not advise getting a 02-03 745li. That is the one i had previous to this one and it had a million problems. I just had it lemoned if thats what its call and got all the money back from BMW. That was the first years that car came out and BMW says that they have a lot of problems with that car. If you buy it from private owner you wont be able to lemon it back to the dealer. I think 04 would be better choice.

As per the 12k miles. I had the 03 745 and total miles was 31,930 when I turned it in last month and that was a buy so I wasnt even being cautious about miles. I guess since i work from home I dont drive that much, but it also means I dont get out that much so I am not sure its a good thing.

I think you've listened to 1 too many rap songs. What about these cars has changed over the past few years to make them more mechanically sound?

They are great looking cars but the fact that BMW will only stand behind this car for 60k miles tells me something.

This is an $85k+ car and it is a joke.

I have enjoyed this thread very much. Although I do not agree with most of the posts I understand where they are coming from.

thanks much for the tip. i havent heard this before and am going to look into it. getting a lemon would be such a disaster. right now the 04 is just a bit too much for the price range im looking at (under 45k). is the reason that it cant be lemoned back is that the warranty is not transferrable?
