Re: Versus some awesome bluffer
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Habitual bluffers aren't really the players I want to open the fire hose on. Although it's not terribly likely, we could easily be crushed on the flop or turn. This also isn't a way ahead/way behind situation. My gameplan would be to keep the pot small and make sure I showdown. [/ QUOTE ] Is that because we're more often WA than WB? [/ QUOTE ] No, I think we're more often ahead, but I don't think we're way ahead very often at all. He could have many hands with six outs against ours, and like I said before he could easily be winning already. I don't see any reason to swell the pot by getting into a spray-fest against a guy who's willing to do that with hands we beat, thus forcing us to put a lot of bets in the pot on the way to showdown when we could easily be crushed. I basically want two bets total going in on both big streets combined, and it seems that against this particular player the best way to achieve that is to let him take the lead. Obviously if we knew ahead of time he was going to check the turn then betting would be best, but I think the chances of this guy checking the turn through are very low. It's also true that he might call a river bet with a whole slew of hands we beat, but I think it's more likely he's going to bluff-bet with those hands than call with them. |

Re: Versus some awesome bluffer
And the playout: I check/called. Vill had 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
I actually like cc's suggestion of bet/calling the river as I think I'm ahead there around 90% of the time, but again it's a question of if he'll raise vs how often he'll fold. |

He raised in the first hand through a Gutshot, nothing bad about it

Re: Versus some awesome bluffer
[ QUOTE ]
but really this hand tells you all you need to know. Results in white below: Hero has Jd Jh (one pair, jacks). Button has 2s 2d (one pair, twos). Outcome: Hero wins 9.25 BB. [/ QUOTE ] To me this hand looks like the purest example of the Shania of c-betting overcards ever posted. Not a bluff. Concerning the other hand, I would probably be 3-betting the flop thinking to myself 'you have not got a 9'. If he just called it I'd lead the turn, too. Then check on the river but I wouldn't be too crazy about my hand if he bet me on the river at that point, but probably still call it. Umm yeah... well, like I say, I never said I'm good at this game. |

Re: Versus some awesome bluffer
I check/call the river. Give him another chance. Sometimes he will have the J, based on the check behind, but he will often have nothing and take a stab at the river, where he would otherwise fold to a bet.

Re: Versus some awesome bluffer
I am checking right here. Seems like a straightforward application of checking when the other player will bet more hands than he will call.

Re: Versus some awesome bluffer
It looks like you got free carded, but that's a strange play heads up. I think you should have 3-bet this on the flop or lead out on the turn since it is a coordinated flop and the turn was an okay card. It's harder to play these hands out of position obviously. Check call river to try and induce. He either gave up or was on the draw. Either way he's not going to call, but might bluff.
