Re: set of queens on scary board
I don't really think that this is a scary board. You are only behind KJ and AA. I don't think that AA seems that likely and his range also consists of AK, AQ, AJ, AT, KK, KQ, TT, 99, 44, T9.
I would probably have reraised his turn bet, but I think that if he has 2 pair he will call a river raise. So I would make it $20. If you are really scared of KJ I guess you could just call, but I think that is missing out on value. You will have $35 behind with the bet and can probably fold to a push. |

3-bet the turn before an 8/J/K hits. If he has a str8 then you're SOL.

Re: set of queens on scary board
I only called the turn bet because I thought he had the straight so I was hoping to fill up on the river. His river bet was pretty weak so I reraised him to $21 and he pushed all-in. I think I have like $33 left, call or fold?
I guess it wasn't a scary board but his actions were scaring me |

Re: set of queens on scary board
You haven't shown strength at all throughout the hand. Is he likely to push strong two pair hands here as well?
If you think you've played this super passive as well I can justify a call. But you definitely need to 3bet the turn. I screwed this up on a previous hand and it put me in a funky river spot as well. |

Re: set of queens on scary board
I have been thinking recently about what to do on an A high flop with KK and QQ in this type of situation.
I think that the check behind here is ok. You are not likely to get a fold from a hand better than yours and I don't think that there are too many worse hands that call (this is read dependent obviously). However by checking the flop you can get value from lower pairs that would have folded the flop. If there were more obvious draws on the flop then I agree with a flop bet, but on this board I actually like the check behind. Comments? Is my reasoning useless? |

Re: set of queens on scary board
why no flop bet?
3-bet the turn and then raise him all-in on the river. as played instacall his river push. there are 2 hands J8 and KJ that make straights here - there are loads of hands he could be betting with that you have toasted - AT AQ A9 TT or 99 are all in his range and you have all those crushed. |
