Anyone familiar with Morongo Hotel and Casino?
If so, is it a nice place to stay and play poker and mini vacation? How's the play on the NL tables and any other info or tidbits. It's out by Palm Springs btw, about an hour drive I think from OC.

Re: Anyone familiar with Morongo Hotel and Casino?
I wouldn't necessarily agree with Surf, but it is not a place I personally recommed, largely due to the 18+ aspect of their resort, which adds a crazy amount of high school seniors, and those that are too young to play at better poker rooms like Commerce and the Bike.
Yes, the action in NL is more juicy because of this, "Daddy's Money" kids, wearing shades at 2/5, that are hyper agressive with middle pair and a decent kicker, but overall, it is very crowded most of the time, and the lack of autoshufflers in some of the tables makes for a less then desirable atmosphere. Many other SoCal locals come there since it is closer then Vegas and has most of the standard casino fair (i.e. slots, electronic roulette, craps with cards, etc). The hotel rooms are very nice, actually, with plasma screens, modern furnishings, and a very hip and trendy nightclub on the top of the tower. Overall, it is basically the Palms without as many Paris Hilton wannabees. Good luck! |

Re: Anyone familiar with Morongo Hotel and Casino?
The NL action is pretty good, because the games are half or more 18-20 yr olds. The poker room is small, with 3 to 6 1-3 NL games going, usually a single 2-5, and on weekends 5-10 occasionally. It's much more than an hour from OC, though-- it's 35 miles east of Riverside, so an hour from Corona. The NL action there is better than Pechanga, but Pech is closer, and a MUCH nicer resort for nearly everything (except clubbing). Pech's poker room is 3-4 times bigger (though mostly limit, so similar numbers of NL games), run professionally, and a class experience. 30 miles south of Corona on 15 in Temecula.
Morongo floors are inconsistent at best, the lists are not run well, but the dealers are mostly competent. -Curtis |
