me either, ive found many people with ADD (or traits of ADD) that can concentrate on one hobby/career/activity that they are interested in and good at with amazing prowess and concentration. it boggles the mind the way it works. some of the firefighters i used to work with couldnt pay attention when running drills but when that bell goes off, its like theyre in superhero world. truly amazing.

Without meds, I play the best I ever will when hyperfocused. Unfortunately I can also get bored/distracted and do something outragiosly idiotic (yes-even more than normal).

[/ QUOTE ]

i would often get bored playing poker in the middle stages of an MTT or right after i'd started a set of STTs when i'd already been playing for a while, or if i took a beat, or if a friend called, or if basically anything happened that upset my focus. (so, anything.) then it was time to make absolutely retarded moves until i went busto in every game and didn't understand why i sucked so badly.

now the list of things that shatter my focus is greatly reduced. however, i never used to sweat while sitting at my computer, and sometimes i get sleepy to the point where i need a good 3 1/2 hour nap, which is -EV when you only have four or five hours in a day to play poker. and sometimes i still spend more time reading 2+2 than paying attention to my games.

cliff notes: obv we aren't retarded; there are tradeoffs, though. on balance, meds are +EV for me, and def not a solution for everyone.
