Hello - Semi Deep Bottom Set Hand
Hello,
Long time listener first time caller I guess. I've been reading two plus two since last August when I started playing poker online. I started playing tourneys and enjoyed a decent amount of success. I built up a bit of a bankroll, started reading this forum, thought it was more valuable than the MTT forum (no offense MTT, you helped me a ton when I first started out) and decided to join the bandwagon and play cash games. It's been a huge learning curve which this forum has helped immensely with. After some good results in my first 100,000 hands at 1/2 I moved up to 2/4 bad luck/worse play I decided to stop the leak and move down to 1/2 again to work on some stylistic elements and just stop sucking. I am pretty sure I sucked on this hand so I decided to post my first hand and plan to begin doing so more frequently: NL200 Full Ring Online Villain has about $450, to start the hand. I've never seen him before, which is strange but it's a Sunday so that tends to bring out all sorts. Sadly, I can't even remember seeing him play a hand and have no idea how he built his stack as I've been hit with a fair amount of distractions. Unacceptable, I know and probably part of what got me into this mess (that and perhaps misplaying a street or three). I've been at the table for about an hour or so and have about $395. I'm opening too many pots for full ring and taking down a fair amount of them with uncontested c bets ( something like 24/16 85-90% c bets if hu). Ok: V: $450 Me: $395 Action folds around to me in c/o with 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], I raise to $8. Fold to villain in SB who calls. Flop (~18) 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ------------- sweet!!! I bet $12, villain instantly raises to $30 I have position and decide to just call ----- mistake? Turn (~78) K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Villain checks, I check.........oops again? A flush draw was a big part of his range for me on the flop and I've been running sick bad so I check. River (~78) A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Villain leads for $25, I raise to $105 ---------------- after the turn check, I would have expected him to try to get more value out of a flush, 1/3 pot seemed week so I thought I should try to get a little more value out of my hand. He instantly pushes for my last $250...............? Comments on all streets/bet sizes etc. appreciated. Sorry about the converter - no hh available. His flop action is from memory and approximate. I just know it was somewhere just over a minraise. |

Three-bet the flop.
As played, raising the river is pretty awful. Fold to the push all day. NT |

A flush draw was a big part of his range for me on the flop [/ QUOTE ] This is why you just call river. If there was value to be gained on this hand it was on the flop. |

Re: Hello - Semi Deep Bottom Set Hand
A diamond either kills your hand or your action, so definitely 3-bet this flop.

Re: Hello - Semi Deep Bottom Set Hand
Thanks for the replies. As I expected, the flop call and river raise are hated, and understandably so.
I have a couple of hypotheticals: 1. What if I three bet the flop to $100 or so and the turn card is the same and he leads for $150 into about $225? 2. Given the action before my river raise, how often do you think I'm behind there? 3. How often do you think random unknowns at 1/2 are pushing the river there for that much without the flush? 4. What should I do if he checks the river? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. |
