The rotating part has a purpose. I've never had a need to use mine, though.

matt,

What model is your watch? I googled "citizen ecodrive" but I couldn't find the one that looked like yours, but I found a lot of the other ecodrive models.

I voted black and just wanted to note that in Canada Costco carries this watch in some of their stores and it's considerably cheaper. It'll save you some cash if you can find it there.

I always use it as a countdown timer. lets say its 1:07 and my steak will be ready in 20 minutes i move the glow in the dark circle to where the minute hand is pointing and then when the minute hand is pointing at the 20 on the outside rim I know its ready..

Lame example but hopefully you get the idea!

edit: Black FTW

The illustrated watch doesn't have a tachymeter, it has a rotating bezel. One purpose is explained earlier in the thread, use as a countdown timer.

You can also use it as a count-up timer. E.g., it's 25 minutes past the hour. You want to start timing something. You rotate the bezel so the zero is at 25. Then, when you are finished timing, you just look at where the minute hand is, and you can see how many minutes elapsed.

The feature is common in diving watches.
