Bet or check/call?
This is similar to a recent hand posted by CallYNotRaise06 where I thought value betting on the river was best, but in this hand I went check/call. The only thing that really beats me is a J89x or something that caught, or a pretty poorly played higher set. It seems his most likely hands are a flush draw/89 type hand, so is check/call to pick him off here best?

Re: Bet or check/call?
Spellman,
I think you played it right. Besides the somewhat unlikely backdoor straight unless he has JT98 and played it slow, you also can't beat a higher set. So checking/calling avoids only getting action when you are beat, avoids a bluff checkraise and induces a bluff or bet from a worse hand. The further your hand is away from the nuts even when you believe you have to call, the better it is to take this line and not try to make a thinner value bet in PLO where so many unlikely hands get there to beat you (like if he had QQ98). |

Re: Bet or check/call?
check call seems fine, the guy just lucked out with a nut flush draw with jack in hand, not much you can do.
