Mia,

Everything I know about B'more is from The Wire and Homicide, so my fundamental understanding of it is

1- there are crabs

2- you will get shot

[/ QUOTE ]

This pretty much sums it up.

I used to pronounce the z and s in rendezvous, like it wasn't a French word ren-dez-vus

Also used to pronounce Yosemite instead of Yo-se-me-te as Yoze-mite. So when I was really young I thought the guy on Loonie Toons with the red beard and mustache that always ran around shooting was called Sammity Sam. I figured it out the first time I actually saw his name in print.

You Italians (read Eye-talyons) are going to have to come to grips that all of your bizzare consenant combinations are not going to be picked up on by us other folk.

Dids, who may or may not have failed Italian 101 (because of a trip to Vegas!).

I hear a lot of people say lasiX for laser eye surgery. It's lasiK. It really bothers me when medical people say it this way - laypeople fine, but for physicians lasiX is a drug, not surgery.

Favorite HomiWire inspired Baltimore phrase (which oddly exists in the native population in Alaska): "Maybe could"

I was in high school and thought 'sa-lie-va-tate' was what happened when your mouth watered. I was pronouncing 'banal' wrong for a long time also.

I had a co-worker in her 30's pronouce the stuff that builds up in your sinuses as "fleem".

One time I pronounced czar like "suh zar" in soph yr of high school. My teacher made fun of me for the rest of the period by pronouncing the word like I did for the rest of the period.
