Re: Words you pronounced wrong for a long time (or others do)
For a long time I pronounced "steroids" as "ster-er-oids," putting an extra syllable in for some reason.

Re: Words you pronounced wrong for a long time (or others do)
someone mentioned "chaos."
i had a friend a long time ago who made this word rhyme with "gross." so, "choce" or something. also, a story. in 5th/6th/7th grade i had this girl in my class named Bertha. she didn't speak english very well at all, but the teacher would still require her to read aloud. of course, i thought it was a good idea to help her when she got stuck. i would purpose mispronounce words as she got stuck, like this: Bertha: "Then, the bird s.... s...." Me: "SWAY-LOW-EH-D" Bertha: "...the bird SWAY-LOW-EH-D the worm." we also used to call this girl Bertha-FEX, or Hurricane Bertha. i also learned how to make elephant noises because of her. |

Re: Words you pronounced wrong for a long time (or others do)
While staying at cousins house, my 12 year old brother told me that the cat was licking it's gen-ish-als.
We probably should have looked into what types of publications he had been reading at the time. |

Heard two different upper-management types in the same morning say "mute" point vs. "moot". And my boss says "supposably" all the time.

Re: Words you pronounced wrong for a long time (or others do)
I have heard adults say Skellington instead of skeleton!
I remember after seeing the word rendevous for the first time, I thought it was pronounced REN-DEV-US for a long while. Even nowadays I sometimes still say progidy instead of prodigy. I have heard HYPER-BOWL for HI-PER-BO-LA and PARA-BO-LA for PA-RAB-OLA and PA-RAB-OLICK for PARA-BOLLICK. |

Re: Words you pronounced wrong for a long time (or others do)
I only did this once out loud. Unfortunately it was to a German exchange student.
I said something like: ...."Gothe (rhymes with 'both') is the only German writer that I know of" |
