Re: Words you pronounced wrong for a long time (or others do)
[ QUOTE ]
sam: "homogenous" - Did you misspell homogeneous on purpose? Because that's one I used to pronounce [censored]-genius, then changed to huh-moh-juh-nus because that's what everyone seems to say, and now look it up to find that [censored]-genius appears to be correct. [/ QUOTE ] Same word, but different spellings and different pronunciations to go with them. |

Re: Words you pronounced wrong for a long time (or others do)
[ QUOTE ]
Some words of foreign origin maintain their original pronunciation in English, others don't. Bruschetta is one where the primary pronunciation is not the same as in Italian. [/ QUOTE ] Why is it OK for all of us to pronounce Paris and Madrid and Rome and Moscow the way that we do, but then some nits insist on pronouncing it "Budapesht"? |

[/ QUOTE ] yeah, I had always been under the impression that homogenous and homogeneous were two separate words that meant essentially the same thing. |
