Re: Asking how much money is in the pot??
It's easier than it seems like it might be, though it does take some practice. You can count it like limit, but without a fixed bet size. Mostly what you need to know is the bet and the number of players. Eight people called $12 preflop, so there's $96. Four of them stayed for $50 on the flop, there's $200 more. And so on. If you try to add it up by each individual action, you're probably bound for a headache.

Re: Asking how much money is in the pot??
Listen to the dealer's announcements at each stage of the hand ("X players for Y bets", etc) and the math pretty much does itself. q/q |

Re: Asking how much money is in the pot??
Anyone see High Stakes this week? There was quite a heated arguement between Negreanu and the noob at the table about this very thing. Eli Elezra asked how much was in the pot, the noob took issue with it and Negreanu lambasted him that a player has the right to ask what is in the pot at anytime. Negranue won the arguement at the table at least, stating that in pot-limit or no-limit the dealer should count the pot.

You can announce the pot amount when asked in POT LIMIT ONLY . But never announce the pot when not asked. EDIT: I suppose there are rooms that want you to announce it in NL when asked. Since after all each house has it's own rules. But this practice goes against the traditional grain of poker. We as players need to play with little help from the outside. Hence if we dont know then maybe we need to pay attn more. |

Re: Asking how much money is in the pot??
There is another exception. Some low limit games have min pot sizes for promotion etc. Example I am aware of a game wher ethe winner of the most $30 pots wins a prize. The players will often want to knwo how much is in the pot so they can be sure to bet enough for a call to bring it up to $30, but the general rule is pay attention to the game.
