Bruschetta: Most people prounounce it bru-SHetta, but in fact it should be bru-SKetta.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, both of these are acceptable.

I'm looking at all these words being listed, and I can honestly say that I know how to pronounce all of them. Except maybe the DuBois guy. I would say it with a silent S.

Rule of thumb: If you ever meet some black dude with this name, say "Da Boys." If you ever meet some French dude with this name, say "Doo Bwah."

Every UK based football commontater seems to feel the need to pronounce Tomasz Rosickys surname ros-itz-ky. It annoys me waaay more than it actually should do

It's only acceptable if an incorrect pronounciation can become acceptable via incessant use. (In fact, it can and does, so I suppose you're right.)

So did my ex-girlfriend, who lived in Green Bay for a few years. When she came back down here it was something she had to grow out of.

Anyway, "awry" is "a-rye?" I never put two and two together...

I say hyper-bowl when I'm spelling it out. Sometimes I catch myself mispronouncing it, even though I learned the correct pronunciation. I say eff it, I'm speaking English, it should be hyperbowl.

There's a city in Louisiana, the home of Northwestern State, spelled Natchitoches. It's pronounced Nak-i-dish. Yeah, that's [censored] up. People just call it nacho town...
