Re: Words you pronounced wrong for a long time (or others do)

Bruschetta: Most people prounounce it bru-SHetta, but in fact it should be bru-SKetta. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, both of these are acceptable. I'm looking at all these words being listed, and I can honestly say that I know how to pronounce all of them. Except maybe the DuBois guy. I would say it with a silent S. |

[/ QUOTE ] Rule of thumb: If you ever meet some black dude with this name, say "Da Boys." If you ever meet some French dude with this name, say "Doo Bwah." |

Every UK based football commontater seems to feel the need to pronounce Tomasz Rosickys surname ros-itz-ky. It annoys me waaay more than it actually should do

[ QUOTE ] Bruschetta: Most people prounounce it bru-SHetta, but in fact it should be bru-SKetta. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, both of these are acceptable. [/ QUOTE ] It's only acceptable if an incorrect pronounciation can become acceptable via incessant use. (In fact, it can and does, so I suppose you're right.) |

[ QUOTE ] I used to say melk instead of milk. [/ QUOTE ] Where are you from? My Dad does the same thing, he's from Michigan. [/ QUOTE ] So did my ex-girlfriend, who lived in Green Bay for a few years. When she came back down here it was something she had to grow out of. Anyway, "awry" is "a-rye?" I never put two and two together... I say hyper-bowl when I'm spelling it out. Sometimes I catch myself mispronouncing it, even though I learned the correct pronunciation. I say eff it, I'm speaking English, it should be hyperbowl. There's a city in Louisiana, the home of Northwestern State, spelled Natchitoches. It's pronounced Nak-i-dish. Yeah, that's [censored] up. People just call it nacho town... |
