The nastiest parasite humans can host
Hi all, new to the forum. What do you think is the nastiest, worst parasite humans can get? Many people I know say a tapeworm:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapeworm But I have to go with Guinea Worm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinea_worm http://www.alternative-doctor.com/al...ites%20001.jpg Any other horrific parasites you can think of? I apologize if this subject has been covered before, but I didn't find anything on the search. |

Oh, yeah. There's some kind of thing that enters through the urethra. I can't for the life of me remember the name, but that thing is nasty. If I remember the name I'll link it.

Not quite a direct answer to the OP, but you may find this Derrick Jensen's book preview about parasites interesting.

That's some good, funny, informative stuff. This quote at the beginning made me laugh, "This is a good time to mention that Derrick and I are currently writing a book together about [censored] and decomposition. We're looking at things like how [censored] has turned from a gift of fertility to the land into a poison that has to be disposed of;" Thanks for the link.

Yes, I found it really intetesting that some parasites could modify the behaviour of their hosts by chemical means. |

Dracunculus
Treatment: The affected organ should be immobilized and prevent the infection of the blister by using antiseptics. Emili technique in which the worm is slowly extracted by every day laboriously winding out a few centimeters of each emerging worm is still an effective treatment in endemic areas. Its the woem that leaves an air hole, usually in the ankle. And has to be wound out on a stick at a very slow rate. If I remeber right, you wind out 2cm, it grows 1cm. |

[ QUOTE ] There's some kind of thing that enters through the urethra. [/ QUOTE ] Candirú [/ QUOTE ] Treatments for the candiru include amputation and death. On some poker sites, that is my username. I was surprised it wasn't taken more often, as it is one of the most feared piscine predators. However, the (true) urban legend of the candiru has not been popular recently, so many people don't even recognize the name. |
