Why not bet the flop into others? Your hand is both marginal and vulnerable at this point. Why not knock out overcards? If you are willing to invest 2 bets on this flop w/ a check raise, why not invest 1? If I had a read that someone was likely to bet from late position, I think a check/raise is ok, but we don't have that read in this instance.

If it gets checked thru and you still have 4 opponents and a Jack falls on the turn, it seems to me like the only thing that has developed is a reduced likelihood of winning the pot or making an error in turn play because the situation becomes much more unclear.
