Be careful, if you decide to get Sage Francis and Immortal Technique, to not become an enormous hip-hop nerd.

I concur with the GZA "Liquid Swords". When I found this CD in my collection (it had previously been lost), I listened to it for around 5 days in a row. Truly wonderful.

Another hidden Wu Tang gem is ODB's Return to the 36 Chambers. It holds up v v well. In fact, I may like it more *now* than I ever did.

There just aren't any other rappers who sound drunk, high, and retarded all at once and make it sound so dirrrrrty.

Didn't bother reading entire thread to see if mentioned, but the older Mobb Deep albums are tight. The Infamous and Hell on Earth.

Given what you already have and like I recommend "Word...Life" by O.C. The most overlooked hip-hop album as far as im concerned.

Despite by love of Word...Life, Illmatic is THE album you need to hear before you go any further, its perfection.

Liquid Sword, Ressurection, Low End Theory among a daunting number of others are all needed classics.

If you want to get a little more underground and/or abstract I would also recommend MF DOOM's "Operation Doomsday" and "Madvillainy" or Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst.

Basically I just rehashed a punch of other posts + Word...Life

Hijack:

I have Jay-Z's Blueprint 2 album. If I am going to get only one more Jay-Z album, which should it be? Justification appreciated.

EDIT: by "justification," I meant something beyond, "Its good!" or "Its my favorite!"

[/ QUOTE ]

Throwaway blueprint 2 and get 2 different Jay-Z albums.
