Default Tipping questions for freeroll tourney

Freeroll tournament for $1500 with 40 players. Top 4 players are paid on the following scale: Winner gets $750, 2nd $400, 3rd $250, and 4th $100.

The winner tipped the dealer(s) $50 and there was some moaning about the amount. I was wondering what an acceptable tip would be.

[/ QUOTE ] It's a freeroll for gods sake. No money is taken out for the dealers. If the dealers did a good job and your happy you had a chance to win money for FREE than TIP!

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. The dealers wage effective immediatly is now $30 an hour. The rake has been increased to $12 per player per half and you have to play 12 hours for a $5 meal comp. Happy?

I would be OK with that but the problem is the dealers would STILL cry about being underpaid. At any rate economics would prevail and that cardroom would either close or lower the dealer wages back to where they were competitive again. Freroll or not feeling obligated to tip is unreasonable. Choosing to tip anything at all should be very much appreciated by the dealer.

B&M:

Lets not turn this thread into a flaming pro/con thread, keep the topic to what an acceptable tip would be for a freeroll. As per the B&M rules tipping threads without redeeming value are not permitted, I think the OP's question has merit so its ok as long as the topic doesn't tread into the wrong side of the street.

Tipping threads seem to bring out the worst in people on this forum, thanks for keeping this one controversy free.

In the spirit of the request by TT I say $25 to $35 was reasonable depending on how long the freroll lasted. The $50 was overtipping since no freeroll I've ever been in was actually a freeroll at all, I had to do something to qualify.

$50 tip for a $750 profit sounds about right to me.
Here are the tips I have left in my recent tournament cashes (the numbers are my profit):

$2000 --> $120 tip
$860 --> $60 tip
$290 --> $20 tip

It wasn't exactly free, they had $20 rebuys and add-ons. That money was not added to the prize pool. It's not a regular casino.

You are not responsible, but it is expected, because if no one tip'ed no one would deal for minumum wage. You'd pay more rake and have dealers with no incentive to get as many hands out an hour as possible or be generaly courteous and efficient.

Im sure you already know this though, your just a self centered cheap skate who goes into a "its not my job to tip" wall to hide from those negative characteristics in yourself.
