Preflop fundamentals: QQ facing push four-bet
No stack size flames, please. I've been running horribly online (but great in B&M, mostly because the players there suck even worse than me) so I'm going back to the short-stack fundamentals to remind myself I can play this game.
With Milleresque 20 BBL I'm all-in on my reraise, but at these sizes I think this decision is really tough: Full Tilt Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.50/$1 9 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $25.30 UTG+1: $238.30 MP1: $69.90 Hero: $64.10 MP3: $68.10 CO: $110.75 Button: $93.85 SB: $55.10 BB: $49.85 Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is MP2 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 folds, MP1 raises to $5, Hero raises to $15, 5 folds, MP1 raises all-in $69.9, Hero feels lost at sea. Assuming he only plays AA, KK, QQ, and AK (half the time) this way, I'm in bad shape, no? My equity is (20%) * 12 combos + 50% * 9 combos (one QQ, half of 16 AK) --- 21 or 6.9 (almost 7)/ 21 = 1/3. The pot has to be offering me 2:1 to make a call here, and it's nowhere close. Are my assumptions at all off for an online 50c-$1 NLHE game? |

Re: Preflop fundamentals: QQ facing push four-bet
Without reads, I assume Villain has AA or KK here close to 100% of the time. You might find a super-aggro player doing this with much less (99+) at 6-max, but unlikely at full ring.

See, I'm such a fish. I'll give the results in a bit because I'm so results oriented and all.

Re: Preflop fundamentals: QQ facing push four-bet
i'm folding very quickly. if its not AA/KK, you might get lucked and see a suited AK but not often enough. WB/SA=not a good spot

Re: Preflop fundamentals: QQ facing push four-bet
This is AA/KK/AK the vast majority of the time. You need to fold after villian reraises all-in.

Re: Preflop fundamentals: QQ facing push four-bet
Yep, definitely a donkish call I made here. For whatever its worth, Villain turned over KK and I spiked a queen on the flop to win an embarrassing pot, really.
But reraising QQ fairly large (3x the raise) is pretty standard, isn't it? The only calls I'm really hoping to get are from underpairs trying to catch a set, and part of my motive for reraising big is deny them implied odds to do so. It just seems destined that any time I play a big pot with QQ unimproved, I'm in trouble. I know that's not strictly true, but it's certainly something to keep in mind to prevent me from getting married to this hand. |
