Re: The Most Underestimated Movie?
Keeping with the Dennis Potter theme, I'd also recommend Dreamchild; unfortunately, I don't think it's available on DVD.

Re: The Most Underestimated Movie?

[ QUOTE ] Because "The Patriot" was Braveheart re-made into a scenario that people actually cared about. Who cares about Ireland in the 1300's or whataver. It also wasn't 18 hours long and it didn't have a grotesquley disgusting ending, and it was just totally awesome. And Air Force 1 rules. Harrison Ford sneaking around killing people as the President kicks ass. And because you don't want to end up living in a van down by the river eating government cheese. [/ QUOTE ] If you imagine Chris Farley reading this post in a really excited voice, it's pretty funny. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: The Most Underestimated Movie?
[ QUOTE ]
We Were Soldiers [/ QUOTE ] I read and enjoyed the book but the movie was only OK, perhaps because it was a complicated battle and difficult to film. They also only told the first half the story, a relief batallian was massacared on a march back to a firebase. This film also had a ridiculous and inappropriate PC moment. At the end of the battle when the landing zone still looked pretty hot they fly in a bunch of reporters (I believe to talk to Joe Gallager, a real reporter who ended up fighting alongside the troops). The reporters were a mix of make and female. I spoke with number of vets, and they all agreed you would never see a female reporter in a hot battlefield in 1966 or so. ~ Rick |

[/ QUOTE ] In two tours, I remember seeing two reporters out in the field. One was a guy working for Stars and Stripes who seemed annoyed that we weren't doing anything unusual, and the other was a girl working as a stringer who was trying to bum a cigarette from a radio operator calling in an air strike. (I even believe it was in '66.) |
