tighen up or play aggressive when close to the money
i was in a MTT and i think/hope i was playing tight aggressive. I went all in a lot and players folded. some called and i knocked them out. after reading harringtons book i had a M of about 3. 900 in chips and the blinds were 100/200
i got KQ off suit and i went all in. i was close to the final table (2 tables left) should i have tightened up or do you agree with this play. i got beat by a AJ |

Re: tighen up or play aggressive when close to the money
Tight and aggressive are not mutually exclusive for one thing. You are tight or loose, aggressive or passive. With your chipstack KQ w/ 900 chips w/ BB being 200, this is an easy push. You want 1-3rd and anything else isn't worth it, don't play for ITM. Welcome to the forum.

Re: tighen up or play aggressive when close to the money
I'm tight aggressive early and loose aggressive as my m goes down and the number of players at the table decrease. KQ with an M of 3 is a great hand and you played it correctly. You got all your chips in as a 3:2 dog. I open push with less with an M less then 3.

Re: tighen up or play aggressive when close to the money
This is a clear push.
Tighting up sucks, accumulating chips and claiming top 1-3 is much more worth it than finnishing 8th. My latest results when reaching the final 2 tables, just to illustrate the importance of aggression at the final 18. 10 11 1 1 16 1 17 1 Push, as long as you go out making the right play, you can't do more. If I had choosen the tight/passive path, I would have made the final table a few times more, but my wallet would be lighter |

I agree with the rest. Easy push.
I don't think tightening up near the final table is a good idea. Especially if you are short stacked. A few years ago I read a good article on Steve Badger's site called "The Fox and The Farmer" by Chuck Thompson. It deals with Limit tourneys but the concept can be transferred to NLHE with very little tweaking. If you combine it with concepts from HOH then you can really get a good handle on how tight/loose, aggressive or passive you want to play. If posting this link is a breach of etiquette here I apologize. If not, here you go. http://www.playwinningpoker.com/articles/03/06.html It helped change my mentality into the bubble and after. -Andy |

Re: tighen up or play aggressive when close to the money
Heck, I woulda probably goten pushy earlier with the likes of K8s when I had a bigger stack and thus more Fold Equity. AJ will think twice before calling when it's over half his stack he's gotta commit, but he'll call your KQ in a heartbeat when your this small.
Just a thought. |
