Pocket 7s facing a huge raise pf

I don't have the HH for this, but it just happened and it confused the hell out of me.

Villian is 20/2/1.5 over 100 hands. I have played with him for roughly 50 hands today at this table and have never seen him raise preflop once.

$100 NL, 9 handed
His stack- $140
My stack- $180

Folded around to villian in MP1 who raises it to $10
I have 77 in MP3.

Do I call? I figure with his passiveness PF, as well as his huge PF raise, I need to hit a set to win. The only hand that I can see him logically having here that doesn't have me beat is AK or AKs. Even then, if he doesn't improve he'll either check/fold the flop, or make a weakish flop bet and slow down on the turn. I don't think I can get much out of him, unless the flop comes with an ace and a seven. I feel confident that he has a high pocket pair, at least queens.

This may be a simple question for you guys, and sorry if it is. I'm just new to NL and this is a situation where I felt completely lost. Thanks.

Check the SSNL FAQ for the 5-10 rule. Given your read, this is usually a fold.

fold fold fold. you are almost defnintely behind. . .race at best. if he's playing an overpair (8s to Js) and the board comes 4, 7, K you are probably not getting paid for your trips.

Knowing the blinds would help clarify.

Given his stack size, you could make a good argument for a call from an implied odds perspective. If you had a much larger stack, this is an easy call. With a smaller stack, it's an easy fold. Where you're at it's a judgment call.

You are almost certainly a coin flip at best, likely way behind, and you're probably going to need a set to continue postflop.

I'd mostly call here if I thought that I was likely to get overcalls from the blinds, and mostly fold otherwise. Very situational.

Its 7% of his stack. I call. If he hardly raises he must like his hand. I think you end up stacking this guy if you hit a set enough to justify a call.

Villian has us covered. We aren't getting his stack ever. We hit a set 1 in 8 times. To make up for the times when you get stacked set over set, you probably need 10-1 implied odds. If he is a good tight player and capable of folding AA/KK/QQ on a ragged flop you may need 14 to 1 to make up for the times he folds too soon.

Since you have exactly 14x his raise, I don't mind a call here. The problem is that cold calling 10x the BB screems set-miner, so your hand may be transparent when it hits.
